Philosophy of Ikigai :

In the journey of life there are weeks when nothing happens and then there are days in which weeks happen! This weekend was quite same when I got to know about a quiet corner of the world, nestled among the lush hills of Okinawa, Japan, there lies a community known for an extraordinary distinction: its people live longer, happier lives than nearly anywhere else on Earth. What is their secret? Is it their food, their habits, their social connections—or something deeper, something more profound? The Japanese call it *ikigai* (η”Ÿγη”²ζ–)—

Detail concept of Ikigai
Meaning of Ikigai

The meaning of Ikigai:

A word that has no direct translation but carries a meaning powerful enough to transform lives. It refers to one’s reason for being, the joy found in living with purpose, and the subtle harmony between what you love, what you're good at, what the world needs, and what you can be paid for. This book is a journey into the heart of *ikigai*. Drawing from centuries-old wisdom, firsthand interviews with the elders of Okinawa, and modern psychological research, it explores how embracing this philosophy can lead to a more fulfilling, vibrant life—no matter where you are or how old you may be. Whether you’re seeking clarity, longevity, or simply more joy in the everyday, the path of *ikigai* offers a timeless compass.

Ikigai Principles:

Stay Active and don’t retire:

Those who give up things they love, may lose the purpose in life. It is a need to be engaged in the work that fills you up with good spirit a thing that you love and is beneficial for others. Keep doing things that value, making progress, bringing beauty or utility to others, helping us to shape the world around us.

Take it Slow:

Being in hurry is inversely proportion to quality of life. Like the old saying walk slowly and you’ll go far. Try leaving urgency behind, you’ll find your life and time taking new meaning all together.

Don’t fill your stomach:

Less is more when it comes to eating for good life. It points out to 80 percent rule, which says to stay healthier longer, we should eat a little less than our hunger.

Surround yourself with good friends:

Sense of community is strongly ingrained in the minds of the Japanese culture, they believe in sharing stories that brighten our day, getting advice, having fun and living happy.

Reconnect with nature:

Though most people live in cities these days, we as a human are made to be a part of the natural world. It is always advisable to return to it more often to recharge out batteries.

Give thanks:

Always be filled with gratitude towards your ancestors, nature, which provides you with air, food, friend, family. Spend time every day to give thanks, and you’ll watch your stockpile of happiness grow.

Live in a moment:

Stop regretting the past and fearing the future, today is all you have. Make the most of it. Make it worth remembering.

Finding your ikigai:

There is a passion inside us, a unique talent that gives meaning to our life, which drives you to work on to become the best version of yourselves. That is you Ikigai, try finding it and continue doing till your last breath keep refining till you are at your best. In short, that should be the Ikigai for us!

Ashtavakra Gita - 7

The Essence of Self-Inquiry:

Understanding Ashtavakra's Teaching

Man surrendering to the absolute consciousness
Image of surrendering to the absolute consciousness

Ashtavakra's profound teaching addresses the fundamental principle underlying self-inquiry, aiming to illuminate the intricate nature of our existence. Our existence itself is the source of the challenges we encounter in life and understanding this is key to liberation.

Consider an analogy: an infinite power source of electricity flows through various instruments, each manifesting differently. Some bulbs emit white light, others orange—yet the electricity remains constant and unchanged. Though appearances differ based on the instrument, the underlying power illuminates everything uniformly.

Similarly, consciousness is the eternal current in which all forms emerge and eventually dissolve. Whatever object takes shape within this consciousness determines the world it experiences. The nature of your consciousness shapes your entire perceived reality.

Ashtavakra reveals that you are the sole experiencer of your world. The world exists in your perception because you experience it and record it as memory, creating the causal chain of experience. These memories, stored according to your instrument's particular qualities, determine your subsequent actions and reactions.

To free ourselves from perceived bondage, we must recognize that our limitations exist primarily as mental constructs stored in our consciousness that generate desires or fears. Liberation begins with releasing these thought patterns, understanding they exist only in our minds. When your mind releases these false constraints, the world loses its power to compel you toward particular desires or actions.

Conclusion:

The path to freedom lies in seeing that the bars of our cage are merely projections of our own thinking. When we clear these projections, we discover the boundless, unrestricted nature of consciousness that has always been our true essence.

The matter is Beads; Consciousness is the thread….!

Wave and particle being one
       Pic credit:depositphotos.com

In the journey of self-discovery, many ancient teachings have pointed towards a truth that modern science is just beginning to touch. Beneath the surface of our everyday experience lies a deeper, infinite reality. One that is often hidden by the illusion of separation and forms.

This article intends to bridge the true wisdom of Advait Vedant with a modern understanding of wave-particle theory, offering a simple but profound exploration of what it means to be a finite human being and the infinite consciousness that witnesses all.

To begin the journey let’s start with an example: Imagine you are looking at ocean waves. Sometimes we see a big wave rising. The other times we see small bubbles floating on the water. But the truth is that it is just the ocean taking different shapes. It will all make sense if we link it to our body and our consciousness.

Our body and mind are like a small bubble on the ocean which is visible temporarily with a name and a shape. Whereas our true self which is the consciousness is like the entire ocean vast without any kind of boundaries.

In our case, Humans depict the nature of Particles:

A particle is a small, separate, visible, limited unit. We have a name, we have a body that we identify ourselves with, which grows, ages, and falls sick. We have thoughts and with all these units being truth for us, we feel separate from others. You say I’m sitting on this chair which means we identify ourselves to be different from the chair. In spirituality, it is called the particle state, which is limited to our body, mind and emotions only. This makes us be fearful of incurring losses, running after desires and experiencing separateness.

How consciousness depicts the nature of wave:

A wave is a flowing, infinite form of energy that is not limited and is boundless. Wave is everywhere not just inside us. It moves gently through all beings and things but belongs to none in exclusivity. We can say it is a background in which all experiences happen. Snap back to the above example of a wave in the ocean: it rises, moves and falls back. At no point it is separate from the ocean.

Conclusion:

We create an entire world inside us: mountains, rivers, people, and emotions. But when we pay attention or rather wake up to reality, we realize all our experiences are inside our heads. None of it has an existence out of us and is powerless without our reaction to it. We are not different and are one with the world. So, we are free from all that which spirituality calls an Illusion then we experience the state called liberation.

Introduction to Ashtavakra Gita

The Ashtavakra Gita: A Simple Guide:

Muni Ashtavakra preaching king Janaka

Imagine sitting down for a heart-to-heart chat about the deepest truths of life. That's essentially what the Ashtavakra Gita is! It's a beautiful conversation between the wise sage Ashtavakra and King Janaka about discovering who we really are at our core.

Unlike many other spiritual texts that might tell you to perform specific rituals or follow strict rules, the Ashtavakra Gita cuts straight to the point. It's like that refreshingly honest friend who skips the small talk and gets right to what matters.

The text is divided into 20 chapters, each like a different piece of a puzzle that helps you see the complete picture of yourself. Through these friendly conversations, Ashtavakra gently guides King Janaka to realize that true freedom doesn't come from changing the outside world, but from understanding your inner self.

What makes this text special is how simple yet profound it is. It's like explaining complex science in everyday language – the ideas are deep, but the words are clear. The Ashtavakra Gita suggests that true happiness comes from recognizing that you're already complete, already free – you just need to realize it!

Ashtavakra Gita - 6

Ashtavakra Gita teachings for daily life:

Mini Ashtavakra preaching king Janaka

The constant activities that the mind does are an attempt to find a refuge in the action to safeguard its image from which it identifies itself.  Whereas Muni Ashtavakra is completely renouncing the mind's habit to follow this escape route. "Ahankar" the ego, has the habit of always holding onto something in order to legitimize its existence as a self (what we think ourselves to be). But in order to be free, he is asking us to be the formless (Nirakar) so we can be one with the absolute.

Who Am I?

Now comes the one and only question that the entire spirituality revolves around: who am I? If we simply ask each other this question, we may receive a variety of answers. As we all are holding on to one or the other thought that creates its framework as an identity. In the Bhagvat Gita (the holy Hindu scripture), it is stated to start your spiritual journey with negation of all that is not needed, whereas at the level of thought, it creates some false identity with which you identify yourself. Well, this is a constant practice, not a one-time task.

It is almost like starting an education in any kind of discipline. You'll have to first admit yourself, and then you continue with the process of that course that you've opted for along with the improvements in that field in a phased manner.

But in this process, we don't have to learn something new. Whereas it's a process of renouncing all that we have acquired as our false identity and getting rid of the dirt that has covered the surface of our mind in the form of thoughts. We'll have to practice a habit of seeing that false identity as a third person, and that is the only way to understand that you're not that and you'll be free from that identity.

Ashtavakra Gita - 5

Ashtavakra Gita teachings for daily life”

Muni Ashtavakra Preaching King Janaka

As the discussion between Muni Ashtavakra and King Janaka takes a leap, he tries to touch base upon the grassroot problems of mankind. He says that all sorts of seeking and longing comes to an end when we know that we are ‘Nirakar” which is formless. To resolve the problems of your life at grassroot level it’s the understanding that requires clarity.

An understanding that leaf is not different from the entire tree, then you get to see the whole tree in a small leaf. Hence, it is to know that in this entire world you are one with it. You build a sense of oneness with all happiness and the pain of the entire world. The entire meaning of your existence changes when you realize that you are one with the absolute. You are “Vishwa Sakshi” (Witness of the Universe).

When we see something, the range of the spectrum of our view of that object hovers between fear and desire. When we end this craving of being free from this thought, which is a constant practice, then we get into the door that opens up a new world of liberation for us. The liberation is not from this world but from the very thought of self that we constantly are holding on to.

The fact is that, if we operate against the laws of the universe, we’ll be at the state of dis-ease. We are neither the “Karta” (the doer) nor the “Bhogta” (the experiencer). Have you ever taken the credit for breathing considering that it is controlled by you, and you are breathing at your will, no right? It is happening inevitably.

Hi Fellow Readers,

To start something, it takes a lot of courage, hard work, knowledge and consistency. So, this task that I've taken in my hand would help me work on these qualities.

After reading several self-help books and binge watching the series of spiritual and mental health related content, I am willing to begin my journey on the spiritual path with all your support. As spirituality is a practice, a journey not a destination.

I'll try to share the condensed form of knowledge that I've gained from various sources. However, the suggestions are always welcome and I'm looking forward to it in order to improve myself further.

Till we meet again here, keep smiling and stay blessed!
